Way Back When-sday

Above is a photo -- it's a little blurry -- of my neighbor and me getting ready to cruise our neighborhood in Grifton, N.C. I'm on my tractor and she's on her trike. That tractor served me well with the ladies ;-)
At right is a picture of me and Papa with the tractor when it was new. I think I posted it before but wanted to post it again as a reminder of how much use good old metal toys were given. I guess well-built plastic lasts, but it sure doesn't take on the same amount of character as metal does as it gets used.
Metal ride-on toys are still being made.

Way Back When-sday
My nephew Trevor when he was a baby is held by his great-granddaddy, my granddaddy. Notice the similar facial expressions.

Way back When-sday

This is Pops in the late 1980s trying to read the paper and eat while kittycat Bruce (a kitten here) tries to climb up to his face. The paper Pops is reading -- or using to catch any food he dropped -- is the paper I now work for.

Bridge

I went up the bridge steps behind my house today and shot this picture of the Chesapeake City bridge over the C&D Canal. This is on the south side looking north. I like this one because you can see how much the bridge curves.

Way Back When-sday

In honor of my Aunt Betsy coming north this week to visit my parents in Delaware, this is a picture of Pops and Aunt Betsy from the summer of 1977. It was taken in the front yard of Mammy and Granddaddy's house in Roxboro, N.C. The fashion of the year appears to have been polyester and dark socks with white tennis shoes -- let's hope those fashion trends stay in the past.

Way Back When-sday

This is a picture of Mama and Daddy from March 1957 -- she was 13 he was 14 or 15 depending on when in March it was taken. Good God they've been hanging around each other a long time.
I guess Pops was trying to show Mama he had game in this picture. From the looks of the houses in the background, the picture looks like it could have been taken in Ca-vel village near Roxboro, N.C.

Way Back When-sday

This picture from around 1969-1970 is of me and Stephen in the bathtub at our childhood home in Grifton, N.C. The writing on the back says:
These boys really love to pretend they are shaving.
Based on what we are pretending to be shaving, I'm guessing we wanted to be Olympic swimmers and were trying to rid ourselves of any and all body hair.
***Notice how modest I am.

Thursday Thing-along
I haven't been blogging or reading blogs much lately .... and I do miss it.
Been busy with work and other things. I hope to pick up the pace again soon.
I know I'll have at least one week without work this quarter.
Anyway, here's today's thing-along.
