Toby swims on the carpet
Toby the Jack Russell went on his first real summer vacation to the southern Outer Banks of North Carolina. The salty sea air didn't do much for his skin. This is him scratching his belly.

If just for me .....
I've been gone from here for a bit. Got stuck in a rut of trying to save a job, live a life and feel somehow worthy.
The only thing I've done so far is save my job.
In the process of doing that, I haven't lived much of a life and haven't felt very worthy.
If I didn't have a mortgage and truck payment, it may not have been worth it.
Anyway ..... I'm not sure if anyone is reading or checking this blog anymore.
It doesn't really matter. But I think I'll start posting again ... if just for me.

My nephew Trevor at Eagles Junior Combine
This was from a few weeks ago. My brother Stephen shot this of his son Trevor during the Junior Combine with the Philadelphia Eagles. Trevor makes a heck of a catch on the final pass...
Sorry... I'm way behind on blogging. I hope to do better. I'm on my second quarterly furlough right now and have oral surgery this morning. I'll try to make some time later today.
Any of you on Facebook? I don't really like it as much as blogging but it is good for quick hits. I'm not a fan of twitter, though....
I think I may switch to wordpress instead of blogger... Any thoughts.

Boob grab at the Masters
My brother noticed this during the final round of the Masters. We were at our parents for the Easter Sunday family gathering. Funny part is, he noticed it right away.
Pops used DVR service to rewind and watch again and I shot some video.
Guys will love this. For you women... I hope you get a chuckle out of realizing your husband/boyfriend isn't the only one who does this......

Way back When-sday
I have no idea why Stephen is crying in this. I'm the one to the right in the jersey. I have no idea who all the others behind us are or why the one dude is pointing and laughing.

Way Back When-sday
This is one of the few old photos in the ones I have with me now that doesn't have any information written on it or that I don't know much about. I know it's a picture of Mama holding Stephen and I'm standing at her side. The dark blue Ford Galaxie 500 in the background is our car. We appear to be dressed for something like church or some other dressy gathering. I would guess the photo is from around 1968 or 1969.
So we have the start to a great story.... anyone want to fill in the details?

Way Back When-sday
Stephen is ready to go to the prom.
Kidding... My brother Stephen is the Mr. Fix-it of the bunch, especially when it comes to cars. It's a hobby he started when he was young and continues to be able to do today. He's saved me hundreds of dollars over the years on repairs to my truck.
The above picture is from the late 1980s and is of Stephen standing on the road at our parents' driveway. Behind him are his motorcycles. My Monte Carlo, which he was working on at the time, is on ramps in the driveway.
Here's a previous post with a similar picture -- but without Stephen in it.

Way Back When-sday
Above is a photo -- it's a little blurry -- of my neighbor and me getting ready to cruise our neighborhood in Grifton, N.C. I'm on my tractor and she's on her trike. That tractor served me well with the ladies ;-)
At right is a picture of me and Papa with the tractor when it was new. I think I posted it before but wanted to post it again as a reminder of how much use good old metal toys were given. I guess well-built plastic lasts, but it sure doesn't take on the same amount of character as metal does as it gets used.
Metal ride-on toys are still being made.

My nephew Trevor when he was a baby is held by his great-granddaddy, my granddaddy. Notice the similar facial expressions.

Way back When-sday
This is Pops in the late 1980s trying to read the paper and eat while kittycat Bruce (a kitten here) tries to climb up to his face. The paper Pops is reading -- or using to catch any food he dropped -- is the paper I now work for.

Bridge
I went up the bridge steps behind my house today and shot this picture of the Chesapeake City bridge over the C&D Canal. This is on the south side looking north. I like this one because you can see how much the bridge curves.

Way Back When-sday
In honor of my Aunt Betsy coming north this week to visit my parents in Delaware, this is a picture of Pops and Aunt Betsy from the summer of 1977. It was taken in the front yard of Mammy and Granddaddy's house in Roxboro, N.C. The fashion of the year appears to have been polyester and dark socks with white tennis shoes -- let's hope those fashion trends stay in the past.

Way Back When-sday
This is a picture of Mama and Daddy from March 1957 -- she was 13 he was 14 or 15 depending on when in March it was taken. Good God they've been hanging around each other a long time.
I guess Pops was trying to show Mama he had game in this picture. From the looks of the houses in the background, the picture looks like it could have been taken in Ca-vel village near Roxboro, N.C.

Way Back When-sday
This picture from around 1969-1970 is of me and Stephen in the bathtub at our childhood home in Grifton, N.C. The writing on the back says:
These boys really love to pretend they are shaving.
Based on what we are pretending to be shaving, I'm guessing we wanted to be Olympic swimmers and were trying to rid ourselves of any and all body hair.
***Notice how modest I am.

Thursday Thing-along
I haven't been blogging or reading blogs much lately .... and I do miss it.
Been busy with work and other things. I hope to pick up the pace again soon.
I know I'll have at least one week without work this quarter.
Anyway, here's today's thing-along.

This picture from 1968 is of me and Mammy -- my mama's mama -- in the kitchen at Mammy and Granddaddy's house in Roxboro, N.C. I guess I'm eating something but I can't tell what it is.
