Way Back When-sday

This is Stephen (left) and me sitting on our picnic table after we flipped it upside down for some reason. The photo was taken in March 1970, long before Gap or Gap Kids came into existence, but somehow, we managed to look like Mama and Daddy had shopped there. Pop must have got a deal on the gray paint since he painted both our sandbox and the picnic table that color. [Unless he was going all Martha Stewart on us and trying to coordinate the yard accessories.]

Dance, dance, revolution

Below is a collection of clips from one of my niece's dance and gymnastics recitals. She did a great job. I'm not sure I'd trust anyone to flip me around on the uneven bars. In the first segment, notice how another of my nieces and my nephew are in the front row of the audience using their cell phones to record the dance. The kids today ....

Congratulations, Autumn....

K-E-Y ... Why? Because we love you ...

This is Granddaddy after we went squirrel hunting one day. He is holding his old .22 because he let us use the shotguns. My favorite part of this picture is the Mickey Mouse sweatshirt. He loved that sweatshirt. Sure, it clashed a bit with the hunting attire - in more than one way - but I loved to see him wear it.

Way Back When-sday

This is a picture of Mama from somewhere around 1960-1962, I would imagine. She would be in her later teens here.

There is a lot I love about this picture, besides Mama's great smile and that killer dress. I really like the old photos on the wall, the TV set and the couch. I also like the oval rug over the hardwood floor. And then there's the lamp in the background -- I think it is the same one that Mama and Daddy still have the base of in their basement at home.

I believe the picture was taken at Aline and George's house, Mama's aunt and uncle. Aline and George didn't have any kids and treated Mama and her brother, Tony, like their own.

Way Back When-sday

I'm not sure what the occasion is, but this is a picture of Mama (the girl at right in the front) and Mama's cousin, Aunt Betsy, I believe, with (from left in back) Aunt Betty, Aunt Aline and Mammy. I've always loved looking at this picture because of the dresses and the different looks on all their faces. It looks like it's from the mid 1950s but I'll have to let Mama or Aunt Betsy leave a comment saying exactly when this was taken and why they were all dressed up.

Sneak peek ...

The 12-week get healthy challenge started today. I've put a link over to the right and I promise to try not to blog too much about it here. But I would like to give y'all a sneak peek at one of the ways I plan to exercise during this program. I'll post this on the other blog in a day or so.

Nothing like having a StairMaster a short walk from your back door....

Time to get healthy ...

The 12-week get healthy/fitness challenge sponsored by the newspaper I work for officially starts Jan. 8 but the blogging by the men's and women's teams has started. I mentioned it in an earlier post here. This new challenge will be replacing the Meltdown Monday feature that I have neglected.

Check out the men's team blog, including me, here.

Check out the women's team blog here.

Check out the Get Healthy challenge page here.

I'll put a link to these over to the right within a day or two so you can follow the entire 12-week progress. I'll keep you posted here but will keep most of it on the challenge blog. It should be interesting. Comments on the challenge blogs are always appreciated (incentive to keep going). Even if you don't want to comment or read the blogs, there are great health tips and links on the main page here. You can join the challenge and play along.

A little something funny for your Friday

Way Back When-sday

This photo is from the early '80s of some kittens our cat had not too long after we moved from North Carolina to Delaware. The funny part is ... the newspaper in the bottom of the box -- the paper we used to line it and to collect the, you know, -- well, that's the paper I'm now one of the news editors for. Funny how things work out.

A little odd, but it's catchy

I came across this song -- "Clouds across the Moon" -- from The RAH Band and had to do something with it. It's a little cheesy but it's catchy. I shot the video a couple of days before Christmas when Mars was visible and there was a full moon. It was right after a rain storm moved through.

Who was The RAH Band?

I promise, more regular posting to begin soon.
